Original 18th Century British or French Brass Handle Hunting Sword with Lion’s Head Pommel

$795.00

SKU: ONSV7737 Category:

Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice example of a pretty typical hunting sword of the late 17th or early 18th century, most likely of British origin, but it could also be French, as the style was popular throughout the area. It has the typical slightly curved thin blade, intended to deliver the final blow to wounded game that had been brought down by hounds and/or guns. The long and thin blade would be able to reach the heart, killing the game animal instantly.

The sword is completely unmarked, but is definitely of high quality, with a lovely brass hilt, with a very stylized Lion’s Head on the pommel. The hilt was originally gilt, but that faded, and at some time after that it was “restored” with gold paint, giving it a lovely look. The blade is still firm in the grip, with no wobble.

A lovely 18th Century Hunting sword, ready to add to your collection!
